RMS Lanes -partner?

We have been running RMS 3-Lane for some time. I am running 1.3 with the old-style serial dongle. We got the disks and registration numbers for all three lanes when v2 was first released but I never installed it because all the problems with matrix items and the fact that they changed the registration to PER DEVICE instead of PER USER.

When it came time to renew my subscription, I didn't, because I didn't think it would help since everything was geared to v2 then.

Well, things are stable now with v2 and we have changed our systems around so we mainly use 4 computers now for processing orders instead of the 7-10 we were using before.

So, basically, I need ONE LANE. And I'd like to go ahead and upgrade to v2.

  1. If I buy ONE lane of RMS (looking online for best price) and I get the latest CD with all the fixes on it, can I install that to all four of my computers and use my 3 keys they originally sent me along with the new one?

  1. How to I restart my subscription? they want to charge me 00+ to restart it since it has been over a year since it expired. is there a cheaper way to do it...or do I need it at all?

  2. Some of these sellers will sell you one lane and include a year of subscription. Would this work for me since I have 3 existing lanes?

Thanks for any clarification!!!

P.S. I really do not have and have never really had a "partner." Did it all myself.

  1. Yes.

  1. Your Partner (or whomever you decide to buy the new lane from) can request that the Lapse Fees be waived. It is hit or miss as to how much they will waive but they generally do waive at least a portion of the Lapse Fee.

  2. It is now mandatory to purchase new lanes with Annual Maintenance. Microsoft may or may not allow you to purchase the new lane with the Annual Maintenance and not for all of your existing lanes. If they allow you to purchase the new lane without having to purchase the Annual Maintenance for your existing lanes what they will do is divide the amount of the Annual Maintenance across all lanes including the new one. So if you have 3 lanes and buy another lane instead of getting 1 year of Maintenance you will only have 3 months or 1/4 of a year worth of Maintenance for all your lanes.

1) MSFT is still sending out CD's with a 2.0.0105(base) version and you will either need to download the service packs or have your partner send them to you.

2) Ask your partner to see if they can get the lapse fees waived. its at least worth asking

3) I just did a training on the new MSFT licensing policy last week and this is how it was explained to us.

Your base price for BRAP 18% of SRP(usually $1190) so it should be $214.20(this gets you the 1 year of BRAP going forward from purchase date) per lane.

Then there is a 19% lapse fee charge. Which is calculated at (19%*SRP/365)*Days Lapsed. Then add them the cost of a year of BRAP with the lased fees and you have your price per lane(its not an exact science but pretty close).

Now to make sure MSFT gets the BRAP funds for all lanes for stores that do an add on lane they now require you to pay for all lanes for the BRAP if its expired or if its still has time left they will prorate as described..

They did this because people who wanted to add a lane would use the BRAP software from that single lane and update all there lanes. or people with multiple stores would renew the smallest store for the BRAP and use the updates and service packs at all stores regardless of the licensing. So MSFT changed policy to get the money.
