Sorting Reports by Date

I cannot get my Open Work Orders report to sort by date.

I'm using Reports|Quotes/Orders|Work Orders - Detailed. If I move the Due Date column to the left edge and Group First Column, the report automatically sorts by column #2 (Order #).

If I use No Grouping, I can sort by date.

I really want both: grouped and sorted by date.

Is there a way to accomplish this?

TT,

I may not have enough data in my system, but by just dragging the Due Date column to the left, it groups by Date, it sorts by Date and then all of the items in the order. I didn't change the grouping at all.

At present, I have about a fifteen orders on my filtered report. If I move the date column to the left, it always sorts on column #2 (Order #). If I drag the Customer column to position #2, the report automatically sorts by Customer.

The report will only sort by date when I have no grouping.

I could easily post my report in .pdf if that would help.

TT,

Is this what your report looks like?

Yeah, I didn't have enough data in it. I'll play with it.

Yup.

That's my problem.

Could this be considered a bug, or is this (poor) design intent?

OK. Forget the date sorting bug. I've accepted it and my people will simply have to deal with a report that's sorted by Order Number.

Now for the next challenge: I want to add a column that shows if a line item is on a PO.

I have renamed the Qty Ord, Qty RTD and Qty on Ord columns as Ordered, Delivered and Outstanding. Now I need one more column 'On Order' that reflects the Item Properties|Inventory|On Order field.

TT,

I sent to Malcolm @ Top Dog yesterday under the ng subject Converting WO to Layaways, an Orders (Detail) Report. It will display all "orders" layaways, workorders, and backorders.

Last night I modified it some more to add some additional fields for someone else and have changed the name because it was too similar to a Microsoft report, Order (Detail) vs. Orders (Detail). So now its called an Order Fulfillment report. Find it attached. By default, it will only show orders that can be filled, either partially or completely. If you want to see all open orders, go back to the filter and delete the OnHand > 0 line.

If you don't want the extras on the report, compare the two and modify the WO report with the changes I made to display an On Order column.

TT,

Probably a little of both! ;-)

Jeff,

That is really handy. Thank you. I'm just starting to figure out the XML/SQL in these reports and the PreQuery and TablesQueried portion is not quite within my grasp--yet. I was able to copy your PreQueries and the last line of your TablesQueried into my already modified report, add the ViewOnOrder column and now I have exactly what I needed.

Thanks again, Tom

Thanks again, Tom
