SQL 2005 Express Keeps Losing Connection

Both my registers keep losing connection to the Store Ops server, which resulting the Blind Close Outs. I checked Windows Event Viewer and found entries of "Failure Audit" from source MSSQLSERVER. The entries were quite coincidental with the blind close out time stamps. I also noticed there a bunch of entries in the log by MSSQLSERVER.

Any advice?

Thanks.

Morning DanielSie,

Have you checked to make sure that you have the SQL service setup to use NamedPipes and TCP/IP? You can check this on the Back Office computer by going into Microsoft SQL Server 2005 | Configuration Tools | SQL Server Configurations. Expand the SQL Native Client Configuration and select Client Protocols. This will display a list of services and tells you if they are enabled or disabled. Make sure Named Pipes and TCP/IP are enabled. You will also want to check Microsoft Dynamics RMS | Client Netowrk Utility. Make sure you have Named Pipes and TCP/IP on the right side and Named Pipes is listed first.

Do these computer have any other function besides being RMS registers?

Thanks Dane.

Here is the order:

  1. Shared Memory (enabled)
  2. TCP/IP (enabled)
  3. Named Pipes (enabled)
  4. VIA (disabled)

So I would have to change the order and put Named Pipes as 2nd? Can I do that during store operation hours? Would I have to reboot after that?

I have a computer dedicated as the server and the registers are not functioning as anything else.

DanielSie, I would do this in the off hours becuase it will require a restart on the two registers. Just go into Microsoft Dynamics RMS | Client Netowrk Utility. Make sure you have Named Pipes and TCP/IP on the right side and Named Pipes is listed first

Are you losing LAN connection also? If so, have you checked physical connections, cables and router?
