Store QTYs from HQ

Hi all!

Is there a way to get the inventory level for an item in the stores from the hq, without looking in the snapshot.

Because as far as I know, we have to run a worksheet to update the snapshot and I need it live with no worksheets to run first.

We are using RMS 1.3.1010

Thank you

Julien

If everything is working correctly, the Store Quantity of the Item Properties form should be accurate without running any special worksheets.

How it works - once you have your WS501/Inventory task 190 completed, inventory numbers will be updated with regularly scheduled WS401s. The 'problem' is when store inventory numbers get out of whack. I think that if you simply change the On Hand quantity at the store level, that this change is not sent to HQ. Have your people use Transfer In/Out to adjust quanities and it *should* always be accurate.

To the best of my knowledge...

Manual updates should also report up to HQ on the 401. I still agree with you that it is not good practice.

I *think* that as long as no worksheets fail to process your store and HQ should stay pretty well in sync. If something does fail however, it never seems to be right until you do something drastic to correct it - either pushing HQ qty down or pulling store qty up with a 501.

Julian, The values in ItemDynamic in the HQ Database are as current as the most recent 401 worksheet for that store. That does not mean that they are

100% correct, but they are as close as they are going to be without doing something major to change them (like a physical inventory). If you need more timely control, you can set the stores to connect more often; I have had sites connecting as often as every 5 minutes. Eventually the customers realized that they really didn't need to manage that tightly and spread it out a bit, but you can connect as often as your network and servers will support...

If there is an option at the stores to "Check Stores" to get the HQ reported store quantity, why can't they have an option for HQ to check the live store quantity? Sometimes things happen fast and waiting for a 401 update is not fast enough. I need live data from the stores...

I have developed my own Excel spreadsheet workarounds, but this should be an option within HQ...

It's the nature of HQ Communications. All communication is initiated by HQ Client at the store location. To go in the other direction, you would have to have some sort of service or application running at the store and 'listening' for the HQ Request; you would also need to open ports at the store.

HQ is being redesigned for 3.0, but no real details are available yet. I doubt that this aspect of the design is going to change, but it might.

If the store is networked to HQ (as in the case of VPN) it would be very easy to do. All you need is the IP address and the SQL Server credentials.

That's exactly what I do with my Excel sheet. I have a button that quickly downloads the inventory data from the store. Then you can input the ILC and it will return the current store quantity and other item data.

Yes, it is very easy to do when the store is connected to HQ via VPN. It's also easy to do if you throw caution to the wind and open ports in your firewall. No argument on that.

MS cannot assume that those conditions will exist however, so they need to design a communication architecture that will function with the lowest level of connectivity that they decide to support. Client initiated communication is one way to do that. Maybe they will do some sort of brokered connection like GoToMyPC does. It's all speculation right now.

Yup, or if your are buzzy like me and don't have the time to make this kind of this you can request a full inventory count, and connect to your store using vmc or similar open the hq client and make it connect to HQ...
