Symbol Scanner Hands-Free Problem

We have a Symbol 2208 scanner set up with RMS, which we like to use in hands-free mode. Sometimes, it won't scan in that mode - light just stays red and you have to pick up the scanner and use manually. Then, it will just start working again. Anybody know what the trick is to get it to work properly in hands-free mode? I checked the documentation, all it lists is how to set up the stand and how the mode works, but it doesn't say anything about troubleshooting that part. I also tried rebooting to no avail.

Thanks for any input, Miranda in Madison, WI

Miranda,

If you are talking about USB 2208 scanners, I had that same issue earlier today with a customer of our. I called Symbol and was told that 2208 units with a firmware revision that was earlier than rev. T experience this problem: If the scanner is placed in the intellistand and runs 24/7 for approximately 25 days without a reset of the power (restart of PC or power down/power up of PC that they are attached do) they will go into a state where they will not work unless the item is manually scanned.

Fix for this - unplug the scanner - plug the scanner back in or power down and power up the scanner.

Permanent fix for this - send the scanner back to Symbol for a firmware update to the current revision.

Thanks, Jeremy
