symbol scanner inconsistency

I have a Symbol scanner LS2208. It works fine in Store Operations when scanning barcodes RMS generates, however, in Store Manager, it often returns an incorrect scan. For instance, my ILC "CLRA0003040301" would consistently bring up a similar, but wrong item in Manager (it brought up another item in the same matrix). In Store Operations, thankfully, the scans are right on.

Any ideas what might cause this and how to stop it? Is it a function of the ILC length?

Ccing me with your reply is appreciated.

Thanks.

In Manager, make sure the the column sort is set to the ILC column and not another. Most scanners are programmed to send the {ENTER} key after the scan data. So, if your lookup dialog has a column other than Lookup code selected for sort, what will be returned is the closest match in the wrong column.

You can verify this by typing the ILC and pressing the Enter key yourself.

I get your point -- been confused on customer lookup when someone changed the column sort. The thing which doesn't jive with your explanation is that a similar item in the same matrix came up when I had the problem I posted on. I tested your theory by setting the column sort to description and scanned a similar item (cant remember exactly which was the offending item), but not surprisingly what comes up is a very different item with a similar spelling to the ILC.

Mystery not solved. Oh well, I guess if the problem reoccurs, I'll know to check the sort column....
