item scanned does not come up at POS but appears in inventory

We sometimes have a situation where an item will not come up on the POS screen when scanned but when we go into the items list in store operations manager the item will come up after scanning it.

Could this be a barcode setting on the scanner? Or this could be a hotfix issue?

We are currently using UPC lables printed on the liquor bottle by the vendor.

Thanks Glenn. I think that's a good idea. I will try it and update.

Are you scanning the SAME bottle when you test in Manager? Just wondering if some of your labels are unclear for some reason.

Also, if you press F2 (Lookup) at POS, you get essentially the same window as the lookup window in Manager - try testing there. You may also try just scanning the code into Notepad - may be easier to see what the scanner is reading that way...

I know currently we are having some problems with cloudy UPC codes. It could be as simple as the manufacturer changing printers for the UPC.

The item is likely not in your system. In MANAGER, if you scan an item that is not in the database, it brings up the next "closest item" number-- because it scrolls to the general area and the barcode has an automatic "enter" trigger. Here's my suggestion-- create a new item, and scan the code in the Item Number field. If it says "look-up code must be unique", then the item is in the system. If it takes it creates the item, then it isn't.

Hope this helps.

We had this happen at one of our clients where the barcode would scan but not show up in POS. They would scan the barcode again and it would then appear into the POS screen. I think it may have something to do with the POS loosing focus or something. The bigger problem was that the cashier would not look to see if it was added to the POS screen since the scanner beeped and therefore the customer walked off with the product for free. We created an add-on that used a windows sound everytime an item was added into the POS screen and turned off the scanner beep. The add-on only beeps if the item is added into the POS screen. We are willing to resell this add-on for a very low price or even give it away if the favor is returned.. Email us if anyone is interested.
