Need help setting up random weight/price items

I am setting up RMS for a small meat market, and I am having the hardest time with this. They have an old Hobart scale that prints the barcode labels with price, weight, etc., but for the life of me I cannot find the proper way to setup items to use the info from the barcode. I have tried doing some things with the random weight option on, but no success. I badly need this to work asap. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Derek, In Store Operation you can use UPC/EAN random weight barcode. You can enable the UPC/EAN from SO Manager | Settings..

Now you must change the scale labels with this information..

(EAN13)

20PLUPLpppppC

20 is the prefix for EAN13 weight code PLUPL is the PLU of your item.. ppppp is the price C is check digit

and into Item property the itemlookupcode field must be:

20PLUPL000000

bye Antonio

p.s. for multi ticket I wrote a software that gets ticket from scale (serial line, or network line) and put the ticket into ItemClass table.. and each night a batch remove the scale ticket from database

Antonio, It seems like I am on the right track now, but I could not get your suggestion to work. It may be something I need to set on the scale as you said. The label the scale prints out has 12 digits beginning with 20, but there is a space after 6 digits. I tried putting the 20PLUPL000000 into a new item's ItemLookupCode field, but when I scan a barcode from the scale, all it does is pull up the list of items. Then when I choose the 20PLUPL000000, it asks for a price. Is it supposed to fill in the PLU of the item and its price, or what should I expect?

Thanks again,

Derek

Derek.. Store Operation have a bug (I think from QSC 1.07c) with price items..

When the item have a saleprice active.. The POS get the price from label.. but It proceduce a different extended price because use always Price to obtain the quantity..

Price Of Label / Item.Price = Quantity * SalePrice = Extended Price.

I report this bug some times, but in release 1.20 the bug is present.

Thanks. I'll make sure weighed items aren't put on sale in SO. They usually discount at the scale anyhow.

I might have found my problem. I'm thinking our scale prints UPC-A random weight barcodes. That would explain the label only having 12 digits. Does this sound right to you? If so, I should be able to leave off one "0" at the end and it work.

I update PLU of scales through utility that get data from RMS db and send to network scales...

If your scale work only with UPC, first remove a 0 digit from itemlookupcode field.. and check that 20 is the prefix also in UPC standard (we work with EAN13/8 and non standard code.. but always 8/13 chars)

Well, it may be back to the drawing board.. I tried again using the UPC method, but it will not even let me manually add the item at the POS screen. When I add it, I am instantly returned to the POS screen, but the item is not listed. This only happens when a #2 is the first digit of the itemlookupcode. Furthermore, when I scan the barcode, it cannot find the item in the database. This also occurs if I manually edit the item and type in the complete barcode.

Also, today I noticed that another weighed item at the store began with 22. I am officially stumped.

Here is a sample of the info printed on one of their barcodes:

201324 109954 0.60 LBS $16.59 $9.95

There's a knowledge base article on this.

formatting link
Random weight UPCS use the following format (note the prefix is "2" not "20" as in EAN):

2xxxxxayyyyc

Max price of the item is 99.99

I've done this before with the Hobart SP1500s. . .

2xxyyy00000 xx - Department Code YYY PLU

Really, the XXYYY can be whatever, but that's how I format the codes in my groceries. You have to input the 00000 at the end into the Item Lookup Code of RMS. The Hobart will print out something like 208123123459. Or something like that. The price will be the 2nd-5th "zeros", so the above code is $23.45. The price/lb that you program into RMS is used to reverse-calculate the weight of the item. So. . . if the price/lb is programmed as $1.45/lb, the weight would be a function of the Price and the unit price. . .

weight = Price/unit price = $23.45/1.45.172

Easy. . . but it took me a while to figure it out the first time.

My scale is printing out barcodein the following format:

0 203306 304494 (0 2xxxxx 3yyyy4) x=plu y=price not sure what 0, 2, 3, 4 are

Does anyone know what format this is?

When I scan through hyper term to read it, it takes out the lead zero and shows the rema> Derek wrote:

Zoo,

Does this do the same when scanning the item in Notepad? If so, sounds like you need to re-program the scanner _not_ to drop the leading 0.

Look through the scanner's manual for the info or post the make and model of the scanner and maybe someone here can help.
