Taking a Physical Inventory

Come January I am going to have to take a full physical inventory of every item we have in stock (I own a wine & lqour store). This will be our first one with the Microsoft RMS system and I am wondering what is the best way to go about it. Is it better to buy the guns and software and do it myself? If so, where can I get them, along with proper training? Or, is is better to hire an outside service to come in and help us (they provide guns and someone to mesh the info with Microsoft)? Also...whould someone know who I would contact to find thi person/company?

Thanks for any help...It is appreciated.

Lance,

While hiring an outside company to come in to run a physical inventory is definitely the most time-efficient manner, it is also very expensive, as is buying the inventory guns. One of my clients chose the option of taking a laptop and putting it on a cart, hooking up a wireless router and installing manager so that they could run the inventory count real time without disrupting their day to day activities. It seemed to work flawlessly.

Hope this was helpful, just a thought. Good luck!

Stephanie,

Thanks for the info. Do you know who I might contact to help me do this, or teach me how?

Thanks, Lance

as potential solution for doing online sales, either for your local customers or customers around the country that you can ship to. We bring you new consumers and we have a tool that directly integrates with your POS system to show web shoppers your current inventory for the products they are looking for. Bob,

On your StoreFronts page, you have;

WineAccess has just released a new application to the Microsoft Point of Sale System. This upgrade to the Microsoft Retail Management System allows information to flow seamlessly between the Point of Sale System and the WineAccess server, not only reducing labor costs, but dramatically improving the customer shopping experience on the web and in the store.

Are you saying you have a MS POS _and_ a MRMS solution? These are two separate products from MS.

Thanks Bob,

I'll add it to our list of ISV add-ons. Have you contacted MS to be added to their list as well?

My business has about 3000 articles. I had my emploees to count items, take one counted item from the shelf put a yellow sticky on it with a counted number written on then put it in the basket and bring full basket to the register where I had Manager installed. I put the number in and scanned the item. Then put the item into another basket that my emploee took it and put it back on the shelf. Worked like a charm. It cost me 8 hours of my emploees time.
