ScanPal works fine. I rent them each year for year end inventory and I never had a barcode issue.

I have tried both; the handhelds are nice but a bit pricey. Jeff?s netbook suggestion is a simple & cheap solution that is very functional.

Thanks! David D. L.S.B.

Can you give me a more step by step outline of how to do a physical inventory count with a few laptops.

That would save me soooooooooo much time.

Thanks Danny

I think you're better of dividing the store into sections either by department or category. This way you can have multiple people counting, but they won't all be using the same count sheet. Craig

If you choose option 1 (netbook on a wireless network), what happens when you lose your network connection and can no longer communicate with the RMS database? Store Ops Manager does not have a offline mode, so you can't do your physical inventory in a disconnected mode and sync it up later.

I am VERY leery about using RMS on a wireless network, for exactly this reason. RMS gets really cranky if it loses it's network / database connection for even a moment. I would be very curious to know other people's experiences with using RMS on a wireless network, particularly the POS application.

Also, I know from personal experience that New West's mobile solution was difficult to implement, and the version I used in 2007 was full of bugs (at one point, it was using the MSRP for the item cost). If you go that route, proceed with caution.
