Training mode

Is it possible to use RMS in a training mode, so that employees can be trained in the use of the system without impacting live data? I don't want to have to create a 2nd database and connect to it for training.

Thanks,

Malcolm

Unfortunately there is no training mode in RMS and the only way to do a training mode would be to create a second DB and switch back and forth. There are ways of switching back and forth from one database to another and ways of ensuring that a cashier doesn't accidentally do transactions on the live database. To switch you would need to make a reg file for each of the database configurations. Then create a shortcut to lauch the reg file using regedit. (If you need detailed instructions on how to create a reg file let me know) To ensure that cashiers don't enter transactions into the live database make the Store Name 'TRAINING MODE" that way this displays in the Status bar at the POS and on the receipts.

We had this issue before while doing training for our clients and has created an add on which helps you in switching between training mode & live mode. We are currently giving it out as a free add on. If you register in our site

you can download it from there,

Why dont you just create a duplicate of your database, and then use SO to connect to the duplicate - call it training and set up the customer display pole to scroll training mode so you know what your doing - that way you can work away without effecting any of your real info!

Because I'm training staff while the store is open, and on my only cash register. It's not practical to switch databases when a customer walks into the store and back again when they leave.

Here's another reason to use the add-on: you must switch both the database and the offline database to "training mode". Otherwise you will put training data into your offline database whenever you close a batch while in training mode. And you'll never know it happened until you need the offline database in an emergency.
