Off-line mode

Have a prospect that has two locations in a stadium but would like to have one database for reporting. Could they use off-line mode at one location and then "sync" after the day? They can't run a cable to network the locations (Kiosks) and don't want to have to purchase HQ. Can they Print reports to show sales, taxes, etc. in off-line mode? Is the inventory decremented in offline mode? Any other suggestions?

They would purchase SO 2 lanes. I found this as well.

Off-line mode Enabled Features:

  1. Regular Sales Transactions (with or without Customer selection).

  1. View or Print Journals (F4) created while in Terminal Offline mode.

  2. Recall a transaction for Void or Return (F11) that was created while in Terminal Offline mode.

  1. Perform a Return transaction (Ctrl+F4).

  2. Put a transaction On Hold (Ctrl+F12).

  1. Add Shipping to a transaction (Shift+F1).

  2. Perform a discount (Shift+F3).

  1. Assign Sales Reps (Shift+F8).

  2. Track and use Gift Cards/Certificates that were sold while in Terminal Offline mode.

The most important feature of the Point of Sale is to be able to process normal sales transactions that are still allowed while in Terminal Offline mode. However, certain restrictions are enforced when a POS station begins operating in Terminal Offline mode. There is not a method for enabling these features.

Disabled Features:

  1. Cannot Create Special Transactions: Work Orders, Layaways, Quotes, Back Orders.

  1. Cannot Recall (F11) Special Transactions: Work Orders, Layaways, Quotes, Back Orders.

  2. Cannot Recall a transaction for Void or Return (F11) that was originally created while Online.

  1. Cannot tender transactions to an "Account" Tender Type.

  2. Cannot redeem Gift Cards/Vouchers that were sold while Online.

  1. Cannot view Journals (F4) from transactions that were entered in Online mode.

  2. Cannot perform any Drawer functions (F5), including a X or Z Reports.

  1. The Calendar (F6) is not available.

  2. 'No Sale' transactions (F8) are not available.

  1. Drops/Payouts (F10) are not available.

  2. Messages (Shift+F2) are not available.

  1. Account Receivable Payments (Shift+F4) are not available.

  2. Cannot create new Customers (Shift+F7).

  1. Cannot use the Time Clock (Ctrl+Shift+F4).

  2. Cannot edit or track shipping records (Ctrl+Shift+F8 and Ctrl+Shift+F9).

Yes.. you can.. but in off-line mode you can't use customer account.. and other features...

All days when you make a ZReport you must be linked to 'main database' and after you can work offline (disable network interface, remove cable.. firewall...)

But your license support two registers?

Pat,

There are restrictions when using the offline mode. When using this, you cannot add items, create customers, run the Z report, or perform other tasks. You can only run the Z-report which is very crucial when synchronizing the offline database to the primary database. During offline mode, you cannot also launch Manager, therefore, you cannot print reports. :(

Hope this helps.

Sorry Pat, just a correction.. You cannot run a Z report but typically, if the workstation is off the network, the open batch that existed when the workstation was in Terminal Offline Mode is automatically blind-closed.

We have sites that do this often. Just run the register offline and bring it to the network at day end to sync up the inventory. Works fine. I suggest a laptop at the remote locations to ease in usage/transport back to the network. tb

Has anyone considered using a high-powered wireless network for this application?

I'm curious if those new extended range routers and cards that sell for $300 really work.

David,

The problem isn't with the wireless network, as much as RMS wants to hit the database every second, which makes it very sensitive to network connections dropping and makes it a little unreliable.
