where to start? currently using quick sell 2000 2.2, purchased MS

Hello:

I am new to list and must apologize in advance for questions that don't belong here.

My customer is current;y using qs2000 2.2 and purchased MS RMS Store Operations. I have lots of questions, but I will start at the beginning. My experience wth either system is null. I have read the Getting Started Guide.

Database:

The current system data will have to imported. Does RMS have the ability to import from QS2000? If not, what will I need to use for conversion?

Applications:

Would you install RMS on same machine with QS2000 or use a test machine?

QS2000 appears to have two main components: QS Manager and QS2000. Does RMS replace both these components? If so, what are the compliments in RMS named?

Thank you for the quick reply Rick!

I need to confirm that it is safe to install on current productional machines without conflict? They are xp pro and both meet hardware requirements...

I don't think there'd be a problem unless you tried to run both programs at the same time. To be honest, I wouldn't do it. You run the risk of someone running the wrong program and all your sales for one day on one till end up being on the old system - yuk!

Make a backup of each machine (ghost or live state recovery good here) and then uninstall the old QS and then install RMS. Once you have that set up and working back that system up as well.

I am really quite protective of POS term> Different system RMS uses SQL QS2000 uses MDB might conflict with printers

Ozzie:

I agree to the safety in your instructions. but i don't have an extra workstation with register and receipt printer to do a test run. in addtion to importing the databases, i need to know if i will have to RMS configure from scratch or will it also import the configuration. in QS, it appears that most of the config is in the data anyway. if so, then the downtime might fit into a sunday (while they are closed). what do you think?

good idea, i will ghost the drive before and after...

You can easily complete the upgrade in a day. I would *HIGHLY* recommend that you get a copy of your customer's QS database and practice going through the upgrade procedure on test equipment before doing it live. You're just asking for trouble if you don't. If you're going to be in the business of selling and supporting RMS, invest in some test POS equipment. Even without the POS Equipment, you should practice doing the database import.
