Wizard for Matrix Population

I have thousands of existing items I need to populate into new matrixes. Best I can see, RMS allows this to be done one at a time.

Are there any tools, wizards or techniques I can use to accomplish this.

Thanks, Richard

Hi Richard - typically when creating a matrix item, the matrix lookup code gets assigned the style's style number (for example, 2433). Then when you create the matrix components, the item lookup codes created reflect style number - size - color (for example 2433-XL-WHT).

To go back to your problem - if you have assigned the style number the items belong to, in say, one of the subdescriptions, it might be possible to use a SQL query to 1) create the matrix definition (the items you see with "M" in the item list) and 2) populate the matrix components. There are a lot of other variables that you need to account for, like price, costs, suppliers, etc.

This will be a pretty daunting task - check with your partner for support on this, maybe MS (will probably be billable), but if this is not an absolute requirement, just start from scratch with new styles (ie forget about existing inventory, focus on new items) and use the new item wizard to create your matrix definitions and matrix components.
