Zebra or Eltron Programing

I have been programing Zebra and Eltron printers in Line Mode for years, but only recently having to do it in RMS. Is the following true using the Eltron.lbl file as demo ?

1) The P1 command can not be changed to reflect some quantity variable like or - you can only make it P1,P2 etc

2) If the above is TRUE then the printer must reformat on 'each' single label printed -slowing the whole process down and with the potential to cause spooling errors i.e. Printing out of sequence or not printing at all

3) There is no way to use the 2-across Labels unless you always need 2 for every Quantity of Items you are printing

1) Not sure about this one - I believe that all of the quantity settings are handled in the item selection part of the wizard and are not available as variables.

2) There is an "initialize" block in the .lbl file. I tried putting the static parts of the label format there - thinking that it only needed to be sent to the printer once - but that caused no end of printing trouble. Better to just let it be reset on each label - logical or not...

3) Actually, you can use the Zebra windows driver (download the most recent version from the zebra web site) and the RMS Label Designer to create formats that work with 2-across labels. I generally prefer the EPL language, as it is much more exact, but if you want to use 2-across labels, the Windows driver is your only hope. Use the USB Connection when using the Windows driver...

What part number are you using for the 2-across labels by the way? I just set this up for a customer to use with their existing stock of Cognitive brand labels...
