We would like items in the inventory with $0.00 not be allowed to be sold at the point of sale. This is required in case we want to enter new items without inputting price right away. By default $0.00 is entered and it can be sold at POS. How can I disallow the sale of zero priced items.

You can block the sale of the item. SO Manager | Database | Items | Properties | Options | Block the sale...
Making the item inactive still allows you to sell it. However it won't allow you to order it in a purchase order.

All your cashiers have to do is press the enter key at the first message and the item won't be on the sale. Are you saying that they are changing the answer to Yes and are then complaining that it tries to block the sale again? Jeesh!
As the first message reads, you need the option so that the item can be returned.
