Can I send my QB files to someone using a different version?

If I have QB premier for professional services, can I send it to someone with QB Pro for professional Services? Can I send it to someone using QB pro for accountants?

My concern is that I get a copy of QB for my consulting business and my accountant can't read the files when I send them to that person. My biggest concern is that I get the one my current accountant is using and then I change accountants and I can't open the data with the version the new accountant uses.

Thanks.

It should not be a concern because if you change accountants you will ask them if they use a version that is compatiable with yours first, won't you?

I probably would pick my accountant based on referals so I wouldn't be asking that.

Do you know if QB files are transferrable between versions and types?

You can transfer between versions as long as they are of the same year. You won't be able to edit them if they are different years.

As a matter of course, I always keep several prior years of QB versions available (even pre-YK2) on my computer, because I believe it's vital to always work in the version my client uses. I suspect that most accountants would do the same.

Good to know - thanks for the feedback!

QB files can only be opened by the same or later versions of QB, including updates. I have QB2002 and never update it, so all my account needs is a later version.
