Change Name of Expense Account

When I started using QB 4 years ago I created an Expense account with a name that continues to confuse my accountant when he prepares my annual tax return. I would like to change the name of the account but assume that the change will propagate back through all previous years. Is this correct? If so, I will just create a new account with a more logical name and use that from January 1, 2006 on.

You can change the name without fear of causing any problems. Just do it.

I've made the change, but, just so others understand the consequences - as was expected changing the name of the account does propagate this name change back through all prior years that are in your current file. This could cause some confusion when using the current file to match against prior year's tax returns. Obviously, it will not change the name of the account in the year-end backups you make and save. You do all make and save at least a year-end backup, right?

Didn't you print out the revelant reports used to prepare prior years tax returns and file them away together.? Changing the name of an account today will have no effect on these old print outs.

I don't believe I implied in any way that QB had the ability to reach into a filing cabinet and change paper printouts :-)
