Deleting payroll accounts

Mar 03, 2008 7 Replies

I recently acquired QB Pro 2001 for my education. I would like to start without the payroll accounts, 'Payroll Liabilities' and 'Payroll Expenses', but when I try to delete them, I get "This Account is used on a payroll item and cannot be deleted." All accounts are zero balance.

Can I delete these? How? Tnx, Dave

Do what it is telling you to do, delete the payroll items.

Even if you delete the payroll items, if the accounts have ever been used you cannot delete them. Make them inactive and you won't see them.

Thank you for replying to my question Michelle. They have never been used and I still can't delete them.

You cannot delete those accounts. You can rename theme, make them inactive, or just ignore them,. They are system accounts. Consider this part of the learning process and see if you can identify some other accounts like those

Gary

Gary is right--if you have set up payroll items, those accounts are automatically created. Make them inactive so you don't see them.

Thanks again. 'Inactive' is quite satisfactory.
