Deleting accounts

I have started another company for 2006 (SP from corp)using the information from the previous company by importing accounts etc.

Included in these accounts were several closed bank accounts. I have deleted a couple of these accounts with no problem but I have one account which will not let me delete it because "this account is associated with a maintence item and cannot be deleted" and another "This account is associated with a cash deposit item and cannot be deleted". Both of these accounts were imported with zero balance and zero transactions. I cannot find any associations with these accounts.

Any idea where to look?

If you look every where I am 100% certain you will find it.

Oh yes. That problem. It's a pain to find where the account got associated with some tax related item and a worse pain to find the screen to dis-associate it. I can't remember where but I was able to find it using help.

Hopefully you will remember where you found your associations which will result in big time help for the OP.

Make sure none of your Edit, Preferences, Checking or Banking, Make Deposits refers to the account. Then go to List, Items and click on the Account column header so you can see if any Item (like Bad Check in one QB Sample data file) posts to the account.

If this is not enough you might rename a different checking account to this account, merge them, and then rename it back.

Thanks. I just discovered that yesterday. List of items showed which items were associated with each account. I changed them and could then delete the account. I also found a couple of other items which were potential problems and changed them.
