GL Display - Class not showing

Jul 28, 2008 2 Replies

I set my GL display to include a column for class. All our payables or checks are entered with an attached class. Classes show up normally in other reports, such as P & L by Class. But on the GL display, although there's a column for class, it's completely empty.

Any ideas why?

Are you looking at balance sheet accounts (ie assets or liabilities)? Classes aren't assigned/don't work on balance sheet accounts.

This is one of the primary reasons QuickBooks is still considered an entry level accounting system. As one moves up the software food chain concepts such as Class are replaced with segmented account numbers. In such systems when you print a trial balance or general ledger you see each entry posted to each segmented account. An simple example of segmented accounts follows:

2000-1 Inventory North 2000-2 Inventory South

4000-1 Sales North

4000-2 Sales South
