Help files

I have been using QB basic 2005. It is adequate for my needs and I have no reason to upgrade. Recently the help files do not work. Is this part of QB planned obsolescence or do I have another problem?

Did you install IE7 and have you updated the program lately to R9? Service patch R9 is required to get QB 2005 and IE7 to work properly.

Alternatively, you could uninstall IE7 and wait until until Microsoft gets the bugs out of IE7.

Did you install Windows SP2 recently?

I have not installed any new software. I do not use IE and have not for the last 2 or 3 years.

You don't HAVE to use IE (I use FF too) but if your windows updates are set to automatically download and install then you may have upgraded to IE7 without knowing it. Open up IE and see what version it says you are using.
