Internal Data Structures

Greetings to all.

I am new to this newsgroup, an faily new to Quickbooks.

We are using Quickbooks Basic (2005 edition I yhink) at our church, and I have had to assume the role of treasurer on short notice, an find that I have been left with a bit of a mess. The biggest problem that I have at the moment seems to be that the system has never been properly reconcilled to the bank account. There appear to have been one or two half-hearted attempts, but they were done incorrectly, and at least one appears to be incomplete.

So I would like to unwind everything and start again. I am technically proficiant (Programmer/Database specialist by occupation) but I am unfamiliar with Quickbooks. So some technical questions:

  1. I can't find any menu option, that will let me revert back to a previous state, but I may be looking in the wrong place. Does such an option exist, and if so where?

  1. Failing an "official" way to do this, does anyone know of any tools that will let me explore the data base by the back door? Ideally, having explored the database, and with a suitable tool, I should be able to reset the system back to its earlier state, and begin again.

TIA for any help yopu can give me.

The majority of QuickBook users find that by decompiling the program code they are able to correct almost 100% of their bank reconcilation problems. Others find that placing a paper bag over their head and screaming like a chicken serves the same purpose.
