Well,you might not agree but I can tell you categorical that an image created for one platform will generally choke if installed on an other platform with substantially different hardware. If you "only" have a hundred PC's it isn't inconceivable most are very similar or the "tech" has multiple images or is already using sysprep or some similar tool.

With an enterprise network covering the entire nation and parts of the Pacific we've found we can no longer afford to have technicians futzing around at the desktop. We hire a couple local delivery boys to hump the workstation to the site and start a network build process. Takes about

10 minutes to plug in and start the process. All the corporate applications are installed automatically by remote SMS servers. If the "helpDesk" can't fix a problem in 15 minutes, they blow the partition away and schedule a reinstall. Images are almost always out of date. A network build can be patched and updated at will and I don't have to worry about who might not have got the word to update his image.
