Newbie - creating invoices based on a timesheet?

Not sure what group this should go in, I?m using quickbooks for the first time today.

I currently bill my clients based on what time I check in to their office and out and bill for a week.

I?ve included the XLS spreadsheet I currently use -

This is a very easy way for my clients to see the specifics of a day based on the hours and I don?t have to spend all my day tracking hours, they just want the time in and time out and the basics of what I did that day. I don?t need to track the exact number of hours I did any specific task for any or all clients throughout the year - it would be counter productive to track such minutia so I?d rather the details be free-form like I can do now in excel.

As you can see it is a very easy form for me to fill out and creates a bill with very little effort. I?ve been playing with quickbooks for a while now and this ability doesn?t seem to be as easy for me to figure out as it was in excel. I need to bill by the 1/4 hour.

Thanks for your help - I?m about ready to go back to using Excel. I know quick books can do a lot but the only thing I want it to do, I can?t figure out.

Never mind - I just verified with Intuit that this is not possible.

Create your clients under Customers. Create as item for the services that you provide eg 'Consulting' under type 'Services'. Now to enter the time spent each day on clients office go to Customers > Time Tracking > Weekly time sheet. In the 'Name' field type your own name and create it under type 'Other'. In the 'Customer:Job' column enter the client name, in service item select Consulting, in the 'Notes' column put the basics of work done and put the time spent each day under respective column. Save it. In order to move between weeks use the 'Previous' or 'Next' buttons appearing on the top left side of the form. Now when preparing the Invoice, put the name of the customer and click on Time/Cost > Time and select(checking on the Use column)the transactions for which you want to bill the client.

This is similar to what I use for a time sheet. I would simply create an invoice, and you CAN bill to the 1/4 hour, using the total number of hours from all time sheets for the week. In the description use "Consulting services for the week of X to Y, as per time sheet attached" and send the customer the time sheet as well as the invoice. Print and keep a copy for yourself as back up for your invoice.
