Print individual cheques

WinXP/QB2005 Basic Most of our cheques are written by hand, however I wish I could print payroll cheques and some other ones. We use blanks 3¼ x 7¼ from the Bank, which has a 3¼ x 3¼ inch stub. Can I print a cheque by feeding it as a envelope, with or without the stub? Thank you.

Try it. If you don't want to waste the cheque forms, cut a piece of plain paper to size.

If it doesn't work out, you will have to order QB compatible checks from your check supplier.

I tried that before posting. I was hoping that someone who has actually done it would reply. Feeding as an envelope, Standard, Voucher, portrait, landscape, etc. I think I tried every combination without success. If it's possible (Help seem to indicate that), than I am either missing something or am exceptionally dense. Thank you, and BTW sorry for the duplicate posting.

The question appears to be not whether you can print individual checks in QB, but whether your check format is compatible with QB.

I'm having difficulty understanding your description of the check blanks you use. QB supports printing of 3 types of checks, Standard (business sized, 3 checks per page), Voucher (business sized with detachable stub -- QB needs the kind with check at the top), and Wallet (personal sized checks).

Although you CAN try feeding individual checks as envelopes, it really depends on how your printer handles partial pages. In my experience, it is just easier for me to send a single check through the printer in normal (portrait) mode.

My cheques are Standard size, but not on a sheet of three, just individual cheqes. When I feed such cheque lengthwise, as an envelope (inserting the narrow side), QB keeps printing as if it were the first cheque on a standard 8.5x11 sheet, horizontally not vertically. Thank you.

It is not just a question of the size of the cheque, it is also the format. I believe that in all countries QB has 3 optional formats, and all of them print in "landscape" mode only. Although many printers have a "rotated" envelope feeder, I believe that this can only be used effectively with software that incorporates this feature. So far as I know, and as others have reported, QB cannot do this.

(business

experience, it is

individual

standard 8.5x11

Go to printer setup Click on Check/Paycheck On the check style select standard Click on the Tab for Partial Page Select the picture that represents your printer's treatment for envelopes.

Again, this is not so much a function of QB, as your individual printer. Certain printers do not have the ability to print partial pages.

You may consider -- if QB prints "as if it were the first cheque on a standard 8.5x11 sheet, horizontally not vertically", you might just want to 'go with the flow' and feed the check as you would a full-sized sheet of paper. If you have problems with the printer 'catching' the check, you might consider using a printer feeding sheet such as the laser taxi. My HP handles a single check just fine, but there *is* a small feed at the bottom of the page, making the partial page slightly longer than standard check size.

Ummmm No Landscape is when you print so that the paper is wider than long. Standard check format is portrait mode... 3 checks long so that it fits an 8 1/2 by

11 page -- making the checks 8 1/2 wide by 3 and 1/2 inch or so.

I use QB 2003. In the printer setup under partial page there is an option for feeding single checks on the left, on the right, or at the top -- encompassing both landscape and portrait options.

My Brother printer has no problem with envelopes. there is something in QB2005 (or my setup) preventing envelope-like printing, Partial Page notwithstanding. Thanks.

Then it looks like a laser taxi is the only answer.

Yes. You will need another bit of hardware called a "typewriter."

No, the best solution is the one we practice now. Handwriting, but being the lazy type, I thought I'd make it easier. Instead I wasted yours and my time, during which I would have written about years supply of cheques. Thanks again for trying. See you soon about another "serious" problem. Cheers

Let's try it another way. You can "handwrite" QB-compatible checks. Get a wad - preferably "voucher" style.

Take one off the stack, and handwrite it. Do another. Do lots.

Oops! Here's one that needs to be printed. Feed it through the printer.

Handwrite another. And another. And so on.

Do not feed the checks vertically. You will need to either set QB to print only one pf the three checks on a normal page, or purchase sheets with one check per page. Then feed that page into the single sheet feeder.
