Program freezing when entering transactions

Hello,

I'm using Quickbooks Pro 2005 in multi-user mode. Four PCs have access to the QB file. On one of the PCs, whenever a transaction is entered, the hourglass comes up, but it never goes away, even when left for hours at a time. The other PCs have no problem accessing and using the QB file. All PCs are running XP Home. I've already tried removing the "beep when entering a transaction" option (since some modems conflict with QB whenever this option is checked). I've tried condensing the file, and using the PC in single-user mode. Nothing seems to help. Any suggestions?

Have you checked the network connection? Is the computer using a mapped drive to the computer where the file is kept? If it's not mapped to the computer with a drive letter you could have problems.

Good advice. However to fix this once it starts you may need to reinstall the O/S and QB. Somewhere deep inside the O/S something can get corrupt if you run QB and you don't do it on a mapped drive. As you have said you tried in single user mode I suspect this to be the case. (Experience talking.)

Try opening the sample co. file on the local hard drive. If it doesn't work, the installation is likely corrupt. Try uninstalling/reinstalling the program. If it works, try copying the network file to the local desktop and open it there. If it works ok locally, it's probly the network.
