QB 2008 Canadian Edition

May 08, 2008 15 Replies

Hi Folks

Just discovered a MAJOR change in 2008 Acct's Copy-you CANNOT reconcile accounts in your copy while an Acct's copy is outstanding.

Kind of defeats the purpose of the feature.

Is this the case with US edition as well?

Thanks...

And, no multi-currency. How stupid is that? They force you to buy the Premium edition for the feature that was included in the older ones.

Only a dumb bell would want it any other way. Sending the file to your accountant before cash is reconciled (who in 2008 can now reconcile cash) infers that the accountant is the one who will be reconciling cash not the client.

Those bastards, they have no right increasing their prices, who the hell do they thing they are, an oil company?

Yes, that is the case in the US. The reason is that now the accountant can do the reconciliation and send it back to the client. But, you're right--the client cannot reconicle the bank account when there is an accts copy outstanding. But, do not cancel the accts changes, reconcile and then create another accts copy--it won't work!!! (I've seen clients do that and it is a big problem--then they can't import the accts changes).

In my case and i'm sure in many otheresI use accountants copy to do the year end -I don't reconcile banks the client does.

QB has been designed to be able to replace something like Caseware -with the FS Designer and the ability to do comparative leadsheet reports, memorize them, export them etc.. Prior to 2008 this was not an issue and now it is taken away.

Why so you can get your billings up with bank reconciliation time?

It does not matter whether cash is reconciled the client can't use the feature at all.

What is taken away?

If the client does the bank reconcilation then it should be done prior to sending any file to the accountant. If that is not possible then they should send an actual copy of their file to the accountant not the accountants copy.

Give me a break. In the majority of real world cases if the accountant does not reconcile cash then it never gets done.

I will also let you in on a little secret. If an accountant can't bill extra for reconciling cash and they receive a QB file that indicates the client has never performed a bank rec, in many cases they close their eyes and move on. This happens every day in hundreds of thousands of accounting offices across the world.

Reconciling cash can be very time consuming and there are many instances where it is more profitable for the accountant to overlook the fact that cash is not reconciled. Many clients are billed a fixed fee and the less time you spend on their work the higher their profit.

I wish I had a dime for every time an accountant only makes a journal entry for depreciation at year end and slaps the numbers given to them by a client they know to be clueless in acounting matters, onto their tax returns.

  1. Convenience/time saving for both the accountant and the client
  2. Something that worked before and now does not

It does not matter whether it is done or not the client can't access ANY reconciliation features of any account for any time period while accts copy is o/s

If that is not possible then they should

Bullshit. The ability to do a bank reconcilation with the accountants copy and pass it back to the client has been high up on the list of most wanted features for years. I can't think of any other program on the market that has this. For you to say that something was taken away tells me you are without a clue.

Logic dictates that if the accountant now has the abiltiy to perform the bank rec then the client should no longer be able to do same while the accountant's copy is out.

You definitely can fill Allan's shoes and we all know they are BIG BIG shoes -you certainly aspire to be just as ignorant as he is.

For my purposes it was -I don't do bank reconcilations -my clients are taught how to do their own -it's not brain surgery.

Well it appears that you will have to make a small sacrifice for the greater good. I thank you on all our behalfs.

And up yours too!!! A**H*L*E

Just in case anyone thinks that Haskell is also clueless like Mr. Smith moi actually took the time to run old versions of QuickBooks and confirmed that clients never had the ability to reconcile cash when there was an active accountant's copy.

Therefore version 2008 is not a big bad poop, you can't have something taken away you never had to begin with. In fact version 2008 now lets the client reconcile all they want. The only draw back is if any transaction gets cleared that was made on or before the cutoff date the reconcilation is reversed when accountant's changes are brought in.

As is the case with most 'ugly' Americans of Allan's caliber he presumes that the US edition of QB is the only one that exists in the world or at least the only one that matters.

The next time I'm in Canada I'll pick up an old version of QB and prove you are full of beans. Thanks for insulting my nationality dude, you are showing exactly who you are.
