QBPro2007 payroll form processing no longer available for one-time tax table users?

I've always been a one-time payroll tax table downloader for my very small business. It appears that even though Intuit still allows the one-time download and use, you can no longer process W-2s, 941s, etc. Can someone confirm this? Seems that Intuit is determined to weed us small business users out and force us into its cash-cow services by limiting the usefulness of its program. I guess there is no reason to upgrade to the latest and greatest version every year. I'm mad and will definitely be looking at other bookkeeping solutions.

Take a look at

It is good software for a small business. It is sold in modules so you only buy what you need. Payroll works great. They reward returning customers with terrific renewal prices. New customer prices are priced right for a small business.

Don't expect QB power reports but for simple books where cost is an issue, this is a good solution.

Perhaps you enjoy others crying in your beer but I don't. My response was appropriate.

James, To get your one-time payroll, you must (pretend like) start the order process for the Standard payroll option which costs $199. You also have to type in all your contact information just as if you were going to purchase the Payroll option EXCEPT type in NO CREDIT CARD information and another pop-up box will then ask you if you would only prefer the one time update. CLICK continue in that box. You will then be registered to download. NEXT to to Employees>Get Payroll updates and download the one-time update. REMEMBER you have only 48 hors to accomplish this download (for all your computers). The bummer is, if your computer crashes or your hard drive fails, you cannot download again w/o paying for the service. BTW Staples is selling the Standard payroll for $99 now. Jeff

Like you, after purchasing/installing QBP07, I was stunned when I discovered that the Qtrly FED & W-2 tax forms will no longer display/print with the latest one-time tax table update.

I remember late 90's, when QB (basic) was $99 ( less $50 upgrade rebate) and the P/R service was $69. When will Intuit's infuriating GREED subside?

First, Intuit illiminates the QB Basic version (which for years, has been all the accounting s/w we require); so we must purchase the more expensive " PRO " vers with a bunch of features and bloat-ware that we do not require. And QB Pro 07 was purchased only for the purposes of obtaining the free one-time tax table update.

( note to trolls : I only paid $100 on ebay ; it was NEW,SEALED and is NOT academic vers.)

Then Intuit cripples the payroll functions with the FREE one-time tax table update so that FED tax forms (i.e., W2, 940, 941) will not display.

This is just not right; has me really enraged and is probably actionable!!!!!

I made a digital copy of each page as I registered for the Standard Payroll service (of course leaving out my credit-card info to get the free one-time update) from my QBPro07. No where on those pages, did Intuit make notiice that the payroll function would be crippled with the free-one-time update.

Additionally, the QB Pro 07 license agreement ( see the quoted text below) makes NO mention that the P/R function is crippled. It can be interpreted, from their license, that whether you pay for subsciption or download the free-update, " ...Intuit grants you a limited non-exclusive license to use ... the selected payroll tax forms ...".

Do any class action attorneys concur ?

" ... License Grant and Restrictions. If and when you: (i) download the one-time free update of the tax tables; or (ii) subscribe to Standard or Enhanced Payroll and pay the applicable subscription fee, Intuit grants you a limited non-exclusive license to use the tax tables, selected payroll tax forms, when available, and documentation ("Payroll Updates") within the United States, provided that you comply with all of the terms and conditions of this Agreement. You may not use the Payroll Updates except with the Software. You may only use or install updates to Standard or Enhanced Payroll on the computer(s) used by individual(s) for whom you have purchased a license to the Software.
