reporting backordered items (un-invoiced items remaining on sales orders)

We use Sales Orders to record a customer's commitment to buy products, and then as these items are available they are invoiced, leaving the remaining items on the Sales Order backordered until they too can be invoiced.

I use a report of sales orders to figure out my production needs a month or two in advance and can't seem to figure out how to filter the report to include only the items that have not yet been invoiced. (backordered items)

The reporting filters show no fields available on which I can filter or sort that stores the remaining number of backordered items in a salesorder. Yet, there are clearly fields or data elements in the sales order that indicate the quantity of each item that has been invoiced.

Any ideas as to how to capture that information?

I have that report set up in QB:Prem M & W 2004. The filers I have setup are:

Item: All Sales Items Transaction Type: Sales Order Detail Level: All Except Summary Posting Status: Non-posting

Hope this helps.

I should have also added that report can be found in the menu under Sales. Don't know what type of reports Enterprise comes with standard so I included what the filters were.

Thanks for the tip. I indeed had already filtered my report exactly as you had indicated but it did not work. However, using the pre-existing report that you pointed out, It DID work, with exactly the same filters. I think this is one of those reports that Intuit created as a built-in because it accesses a variable they have not given users access to. In the future, I'll be more likely to investigate the built in reports first before banging my head against the wall.

Thanks again - you da man, Craig

You also should look at Enterprise 6. It looks like they did a very good job at making it much faster generally and much more capable in the back order area.
