Restricting Access to Credit Cards

In the latest version of Quickbooks, is there any way to allow someone to work with credit card accounts, without giving them the ability to open up the account in the account list and see the credit card number?

In general the security features in Quickbooks are very primitive. They could improve on this substantially.

Not that I know of but you can get around the problem by not listing the credit card number or its pin. Just use the last 4 digits and store the number and pin somewhere safer.

We use credit cards that download through Quickbooks, so you are forced to enter the number.

I am not the paranoid type but I would not enter any CC# into any program other than a secure browser especially not on a Windows machine and would not email a credit card number under any circumstances. If you do have to email numbers do it like this 45 two 7 to disquise the format from automatic harvesting.

Agreed! The local supermarket clerk handles cash.... where is the security? And banks? More than cash there. What about the customer service department at the utility company or the credit card provider site?

Bottom line: there is much an angry/dishonest employee can do to harm a business. If you are worried about security, then insure your business. I would never let someone I did not feel I could trust enter my accounting data.

I don't get it. What is 128bit encryption for if not to keep my emails private? I understood that the encryption makes it safe for me to send phone numbers, addresses and other personal information. Are you saying this is not true? If so, please cite your source(s).
