Hello,
I'm trying to find out if the template data is stored separately from the regular backup data and, if so, where it is located. Unfortunately, I suspect that they are stored in one file in the same location.
Here's why I'm asking. I am using QB Pro 2002 on an old PC and would like to migrate to a different PC that has QB Pro Premier 2006 already installed on it. Valid programs in both cases, but no CD disks. First PC is too old to even think about installing QB Pro Premier 2006 on it, even if the CD disk could be found.
So, in an effort towards migrating over to the newer PC, I back up the data in QB Pro 2002 and restore it to QB Pro Premier 2006, which then performs a file conversion. The process works fine. However, while trying to familiarize myself with QB Pro Premier 2006, I learned that I could customize invoice templates much more easily than I could in QB Pro 2002. The problem that I discovered is that when I restore and convert the file for use in QB Pro Premier 2006, any customized invoice templates that I've created in QB Pro Premier 2006 disappear. This means that I have to re-create them all over again. Due to the file conversion between versions, I can understand that. What I am hoping is that there might be a way that I could copy the QB Pro Premiere 2006 customized template itself to a separate folder, perform the restore from QB Pro 2002 to QB Pro Premier 2006, along with the conversion, and subsequently copy the customized template(s) back to where they should be stored, thereby retaining them. This would be a temporary fix until I can get around to switching over to the newer PC.
Please, no sermons on upgrading to a 2010 version etc., as I've BTDT and don't really need all the bells and whistles that new versions seem to force upon you.
Any suggestions as to where the files are located or if this is at all feasible would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance to those who post a reply to the group.
Peter.
