1920 x 1200 = 22 transactions; 640 x 480 = 2 transactions

hmmm.... ...not much goin' on 'round the ol' home place today, huh Bob? LoL!

For the record, I was using Q2008 Deluxe with XP at 1024 X 768 on a

17" CRT. I was able to see 12 2 line transactions instead of the 10 indicated above. When I went to a higher resolution, I could get a couple more but I needed a magnifying glass to read them. On the other hand, at the same 1024 X 768, I get 18 (as opposed to 12) 2 line transactions using Q98.

The question about screen territory in Q2008 prompted me to take a look at how many transactions can be displayed in 2-line mode at different resolutions. This is Q2008 H&B R6 Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

1920 x 1200 = 22 1600 x 1200 = 22 1920 x 1080 = 18 1920 x 1050 = 18 1280 x 1024 = 17 1600 x 1000 = 16 1280 x 960 = 15 1440 x 900 = 14 1152 x 864 = 13 1280 x 800 = 11 1360 x 768 = 10 1280 x 768 = 10 1024 x 768 = 10 1280 x 720 = 9 960 x 600 = 6 800 x 600 = 6 640 x 480 = 2

Q2008 will start in VGA mode, but it recommends at least 800 x 600 resolution :-)

Nope. Eyes are fine.

I have no idea why the difference. But my monitor isn't even capable of resolution that high. By "non-investment account", would that have a Register view like I described earlier with the 1/2" spam line across the bottom and a similar size line button line just above that? If I could have gotten rid of those, I could have gotten a couple more transactions into view. Still wouldn't have matched Q98 but would have been a little better.

If that's true, you need glasses ... or a new prescription.

I've got a 15" monitor using 1680 x 1050 resolution. I've got

15 two-line transactions visible in my non-investment account register ... and I have no trouble seeing those transactions.

You may already have Full Register View (F11) turned on, but if you don't, I can get another transaction to display by choosing that option.

You're welcome. I can squeeze out 24 transactions with Q2008 H&B R6 maximized, and in Full Register View at 1920 x 1200. Odd quirk is that after all my screen changes, now I only get 21 transactions at 1920 x 1200 in my un-maxed window.

I didn't try the F11 key but I checkmarked a box somewhere in Preferences to maximize the Register view. Not sure if that does the same thing or not. I've already uninstalled Q2008 and reinstalled Q98 at this point and have to run errands at the moment but maybe I'll have time to undo and redo and try again when I get back.

Got back to 22 transactions by switching to 1600 x 1200, re-sizing window, then back to 1920 x 1200. Don't know why I couldn't just re-size in 1920 x 1200 resolution.

Yes, "Maximize Register View" in Preferences does the same thing as F11. So no need to re-install.

Hi, Bob, Port, Han, John...

Edit | Preferences | Register | "Maximize Register View" is not the same as F11 - except in Quicken. Elsewhere in Windows/Vista, F11 triggers "Full Screen" mode.

Windows has 3 ways to make a window fill the whole screen. They may look the same to us humans, but Windows knows the difference.

  1. Maximize - this is the most common version, usually toggled by the square near the X in the upper right corner.

  1. Normal window, stretched (using arrows or mouse) to fill the screen.

  2. Full-screen - toggled by pressing the F11 key. This works in most applications, but not all. When it works, it gets rid of the Title Bar, Address Bar, Menu Bar and Tool Bar at the top and the Taskbar at the bottom - and maybe a couple of other features I haven't noticed. As I said, it is not consistent in all apps.

In Quicken, F11 leaves the Title Bar and Menu Bar and Taskbar, while eliminating Quicken's Toolbar at the top. But it also eliminates some horizontal features, such as the Accounts list, which I prefer to keep onscreen. (Personal preference, of course; yours may vary.)

I have not explored this as much as you folks have, so I'll just drop this comment and run. But I didn't know about Quicken's use of F11 and thought maybe some of you might not know about the use of F11 in "generic" Windows/Vista. ;^}
