I use the Quicken (H&B 2005) Online Payee feature through Bank of America and was curious as to what data I enter in Quicken eventually ends up on the the paper check that BofA creates.
So, I put myself in as an online payee and sent a $1 test payment.
Results: The top of the check has "Account:" in a large bold font followed by the account number from the online payee setup. I tried a 21 character account number and all 21 characters appeared on the check. It looks like there is room for even longer account numbers.
In the left middle of the check is "Memo:" in a smaller bold font followed by upto 33 characters from the memo field of my check register. I had entered more characters in the memo field, but it was truncated at 33 (or perhaps
34 -- my 34th character was a blank).Having seen this, I can now make better use of the memo field of online payments (e.g. to indicate the correct tax year for HSA contributions).
