Can Q2009 automate this?

I checked with my bank about Quicken support for their credit card, and here's the "simple" [ahem] procedure they gave me:

--------------------------------------------

  1. Log in to Online Banking.

  1. From the My Accounts page click Account Download

  2. Select the account(s) from the Account Selected drop-down list.

  1. Select the number of days you want to download transactions from in the Time Period drop-down list.

  2. Determine the software you are using to perform the download.

  1. Click Download.

  2. Browse to the destination to which you want to save the download file and click Save.

  1. To import the account download transactions, either browse to the file name and double-click it, or open the software and select Import from the File menu.

---------------------------------------------------------

Which is [for me] unacceptably annoying. I think folks mentioned that Q2009 can do some fairly fancy things with doing updates with banks that don't support the full-fledged "direct" access. Is the above procedure something that Q2009 can do [or should I look for a different bank/different credit card..:o)] Thanks!

That sounds like a basic Web Connect download process - except that you don't have to save the file to disk; you can have the download dialog offer to "open" the file, which (if you have Quicken assigned as the application to open QFX files) will start Quicken (if necessary) and effectively "import" the data for you.

Definitely more work than Direct Connect downloads ... and more work than Express Web Connect downloads (which I believe are becoming increasingly scarce).

Can other financial institutions offer a more user-friendly method: definitely. USAA, for one. Discover and (at least some) Chase cards too. USAA can do almost everything (no online billpay instructions from Quicken, though).

Ah, "express web connect" was what I was hoping it would work out to be.

I know -- I was just deciding whether I should keep the Visa card from Wachovia or not, and I think that their procedure is just too inconvenient for my tastes so I'll stick with my other visa card (which does support direct-connect)

I have a Wachovia Visa card and use 'Direct Connect' for downloads - works just fine.

Dunno why yours is different from mine. What I posted was cut-and-pasted from an email inquiry I made to their credit card dept specifically asking about quicken support and that all-around-the-billygoat's-barn procedure is what I got back. I do have another Visa card that *used* to be a Wachovia card but is now handled by FIA card services and they *DO* support direct connect. That card used to be co-branded with Wachovia but they [FIA] are no longer associated with Wachovia. [I talked to FIA on the phone about this and they confirmed that while my current card with them says 'Wachovia Visa', when the card is next replaced it will no longer say "wachovia"]
