I believe the original poster has much too high an opinion of his wishes - I don't understand people who think their way is the only way. I certainly don't want his preferences forced on me.

First: not all bank statements list transactions by Date/Order Entered. My BofA statements are in order of Groups named: Deposits and Other Additions, Withdrawals and Other Subtractions, Checks, Service Fees. Not a chance Quicken is going to match that.

Second: the "Date" in Quicken is a "Transaction date", the banks sequence by "Posting date" (Quicken's Downloaded Posting Date). The Downloaded Posting Date would get the register transactions in the same sequence as the financial institution ... if the account was able to download. Accounts that could not download would be out of luck. And the Downloaded Posting Date is certainly not going to be a popular "default" sort sequence.

Third: I have never used, nor wanted to use, the sequence of transactions in my Quicken register to compare to the transactions on my statements. Typically the Reconcile dialog works well enough; but when it doesn't, I usually display a Banking/Transaction report.

Fourth: The most - and almost the only - register transaction sequence request expressed by most users in the Quicken Community has been, Date/Deposits/Withdrawals - and that's how Quicken does sort the non-investment account register "Date" column. I can hear the screams now, if Quicken were to change that.

While I don't think Quicken should waste the time and money on any change in this area; if Quicken feels they must, the only reasonable way I can think of to deal with this issue would be to offer a user-chosen "default register sequence" - or perhaps to allow a specific register sort sequence to be a register "Action Bar" icon (never more than a single mouse click away).
