Daily Update of Mutual Fund Prices

Many times I download the latest prices for the many mutual funds I have. I have recently noticed that if I do the download about 9pm, no prices download. However, if I download prices at 8am, I will see prices from the previous day.

What gives?

Mutual funds are only priced once a day, as of the close of the market. For my Fidelity funds, the 'current day' prices are usually available at about 5pm ... but at 8am it would still be the 'as of the prior market close' prices (i.e, the 5pm prices).

re: why you don't get prices at 9pm, I'd need more info. Such as, what fund company? db

mutual funds are only priced AFTER the close of biz - this is for FUNDS and not their ETFs. so, it depends on their nightly processing schedule as to when the "new" price is listed for that day.

The OP never mentioned ETF's ... which is why I didn't include them in my response.

By 9pm prices for my mutual funds are all posted on my Fidelity site. However, there were no prices posted in the Quicken download on the few days I noticed. They were posted the next day at 9am.

He didn't say you did!

I think his point is that ETFs are a different animal than MFs; some folks might think they're the same. As a different beast, these folks may not understand the difference in their pricing methodologies. Presumably, one might get confused if one doesn't understand that ETFs are priced throughout the day via normal 'stock-like' trading. So he may have been anticipating a level of potential confusion from the OP and wanted to be very clear.

Of course, all of this is conjecture on my part.
