Mutual Fund Quotes

Quicken 2007 Premier Release R 5

When I download Mutal Fund Quotes the High and Low's do not always download. As a result, the "Day Change" does not calculate. Also the "Day Change %" does not calculate.

This seems to be an ongoing and perhaps intermittent problem. I've rechecked the way the Funds are set up and they appear to be correct.

Does anyone have a suggestion for insuring that the high/low's download?

Actually, for mutual funds this information is meaningless. Why can't the calculations be done using the just previous day's close rather than needing "Highs/Lows" to calculate properly?

"Day Change" *is* calculated from "previous day's close" (actually from most recent previous close, not necessarily yesterday).

If "Day Change" is zero, it's most likely because today's price is zero.

(And obviously if Day Change is zero, Day Change % can not be computed.)

You have virtually no control of which elements of security data get downloaded in a Quote (or Historical Price) download (you can exclude Asset Class info for individual securities). That's in the hands of Intuit and it's suppliers.

This should have read:

If "Day Change" is zero, it's most likely because there is no price for "today" (the Portfolio "As of" date). The "Quote/Price" field would have "est." in front of the price.

I can not see where reporting daily hi/low's has anything to do with reporting daily change. Day\ily change is simply the difference between daily closing prices.

Reviewed the Price History for my few mutual funds. Based on an "eyeball" estimate, would say daily hi/lows are recorded about 50% of the time - blank fields the other 50%. On days the fields are filled, the hi/lows are always the same as the 'closing' price - which is as expected for mutual funds.

Also, I do see a daily change reported every day there is an actual change and has nothing to do with whether hi/lows are logged.

Am slightly curious about the inconsistency of reporting hi/lows for mutual funds - why at all?

When high/lows are not downloaded, for some reason Quicken does not calculate the daily $ or % change. If I go in and manually edit the price to include a high/low (the same as the closing price) Quicken will calculate the $ and % correctly.

An I the only person experiencing this?
