Different way to import data?

Oct 09, 2005 5 Replies

My business bank has not updated to the new Quicken interchange format.

Is there any work around that will allow me to import tansactions? The Business bank will let me download qif or csv files.

I'm very reticent to give up my business bank and long term relationship because Quicken changed their mind.........

Try downloading the bank data as a qif file. Then, from Quicken, open the account for that bank. Then Quicken's File>Import>QIF File should work.

I do a similar thing to download and import stock prices from Yahoo Finance. HTH Carl

Depends on your version of Q. Starting with Q05, Intuit has been removing the ability to import QIF files. What version are you using? I've seen some workarounds with Q05. Don't have Q06 yet (TT isn't out yet), so can't answer about it .

I'm using Q05, R3. Where did you find the workarounds?

Thanks

-Create a cash account in Quicken.

-Import your qif file in to that cash account - cash accounts still allow qif input in Q05.

-Select all new transactions in that cash account and copy/cut them.

-Switch to your bank account (checking, I assume) in Quicken and paste all those transactions.

As you can see , this is a two step process but it works.

In this newsgroup. I believe it was something like build a bank account, import the QIF and then copy (or move) the transactions to the "real " account. Hopefully, someone will post the workaround they use. I have no need for QIF files any more, so I haven't been interested in any workarounds.
