Diners Club CC still stuck in QIF world- what is the best way to handle this?

We just got a Diners Club CC for the travel benefits. Now I learn they only allow you to download the entire statement in QIF format which doesn't allow you to import to CC accounts. I could import them into an asset account the cut and paste all the transactions over to the Diners club cc account. But then I'm just duplicating all the transactions I've already entered. Is there a good way to handle this or should I just forget quicken downloads with Diners Club? I'm surprised that a card with such a good reputation is using QIF.

Any advice? Don

If you are saying that you have already manually entered all your credit card transactions before you download them, then I see very little benefit to you of going to the trouble to download and import a qif file of those transactions (which can be imported directly to a credit card account with a bit of pre-import massaging of the qif file). The best you could get from the work might be modification of the cleared status ("Clr") of your transactions from space to "c".

Search for a card that provides BOTH travel benefits AND has 21st century systems (there's a WHOLE LOT of them).

Unfortunately Diners Club has the best program going for me.

John, Talk to me about this massaging technique. Right now if I try to import a QIF file Quicken tells me it can't be imported to a CC account. Assuming I do in fact manually enter transactions into Diners club account ..... are you saying I could "massage" this Qif file into behaving much like a download does with the "Match" .... "New" type of behavior and I click on the Accept button etc?

I always enter transactions as we charge them so that when I download (typically via direct connect or web connect) I can see then if things look correct and can accept them. Hopefully that makes sense.

Yes, I believe you should get the "New"/"Match" capability.

(With Web Connect or Direct downloads, you would also get the "date posted", which can be useful, plus a guarantee that the same transaction will not be eligible for download/import again, as well as a guarantee that once a transaction has been matched, it won't ever be a match candidate again. You get none of that with qif file imports.)

Well .... hopefully Diners Club will come out of the dinasaur age and upgrade. They indicated they would in a response to me but didn't indicate when. I may be dead by then. Quicken 2020

If you bank with Citibank you can link it to your checking account then do web connect downloads in quicken web connect format.

Also you can use the new feature of auto web connect to download Diners Club cards into Quicken 2007 as it works just fine.

I have had my Diners Club linked to my checking account just so I could downloads all transactions from Citibank.com web page vs Dinersclub.com which sucks.

Are you saying I need to open a checking account with citibank? think i'll pass on that one. you're right dinersclub.com sucks big time. Too bad one of the best affinity cards out there is diners club. they are way behind with quicken stuff.

I happen to bank with Citibank. So for me it was a no brainer. Citibank lets you link all there credits to your checking account on Citibank.com which does support web connect for all thier credit cards. Thus you can download your Diners Club card via web connect from Citibank.com

While I don't have a Diners Club card, I can attest to the 'ease of use', of Citibanks web site.
