Recently, when I download transactions for my Discover account I get several transactions that have already "cleared". What I do is just delete them and my account reconciles OK, so I think I'm alright. Is there anything else, other than deleting them, to do {or worry about} with these apparent-duplicates?

What is the connection type? Express Web Connect per chance?

What year, edition and version of Quicken are you using?
Example: Q2020 Deluxe R28.18
See Help > About Quicken.

indeed -- q2020 r28.18
But, prompted by the other response I see that discover has somehow gotten set for express web connect -- I thought sure discover had direct. Looking I see that my Chase account is also express web connect, but it says "your financial institution supports and improved connection method". and thought that it, too was set up for direct.
Chase'll let me do it [Discover won't] -- will there be any problem if I just "click here" to get it [chase] set up?

Both Chase and Discover offer free Direct Connect downloads for personal accounts. Direct Connect is the best Connection Method by far.
For Chase, you must go to their web site; then go to the person icon in the top right corner and choose "Profile and settings." Then, from the left side menu, choose "AccountSafeSM" and "Desktop apps." Choose "Continue" and "Set it up" to connect the software.
For Discover, use the financial institution name "Discover Card".
One cause of duplicate transactions is switching between Direct Connect and Express Web Connect (or vice versa). Typically that is a one-time event; once the first download after switching is complete, you should not (normally) get any more duplicate transactions downloaded.
But it is possible that one of the most recent Q2020 releases has introduced a duplicate download problem (though I do not see the problem when using Q2020 R26.17 or R28.18).
Here are a few Quicken Community discussions on the subject.

I must have done something wrong -- I went to the chase site:
Desktop software You've set up your Chase accounts so desktop versions of apps like Quicken® or Intuit QuickBooks® can access them directly.
And then I wasn't sure what to do so I tried "reset account" It took quite a while [and included sending a security code to my cell]. /But after all that it still says "express web connect". Do I have to deactivate and reactivate or something like that? IF so, will that mess up my transactions?
Thanks! /Bernie\

It is now set to "Discover Card Account Center" -- how do I change that?

That just gives you permission to use Direct Connect with Chase - it does not (and could not) do anything to cause Quicken to switch from Express Web Connect to Direct Connect.
Yes.
Go to the Online Services tab of Edit Account Details dialog for the account. If it says something like "improve connection", click that.
If not, Deactivate.
Then use the Add Account dialog to re-Activate the account. Once you have supplied the correct logon credentials, Quicken will look for your account(s) at the financial institution and present them to you. At that point you should see one row for each account, and in one column should be a dropdown that allows you to "Add", "Link", or "Ignore" the account: choose "Link" and select the correct Quicken account to link the download to.
Deactivating/Re-Activating should not affect your existing transactions (but it may download some transactions - if it does, check the newly downloaded transactions carefully (make sure there are no duplicates) before Accepting them as New). As always, before making this type of change: backup. And don't overwrite any otherwise legitimate backup; create a special backup for use only if this process creates some insurmountable problem.

Deactivate/Re-Activate. See previous instructions for Chase. When asked for the financial institution, choose (or key) "Discover Card".

I forgot to mention: you may want to employ a slightly different path in this process.
Once you have chosen the account type Credit Card, you should be presented with a dialog that has a box to enter the name of the financial institution, with a list of several financial institutions below.
Instead of selecting "Chase" here, I suggest you click on the blue link "Advanced Setup" in the lower left of this dialog.
That should display a dialog with two radio buttons (the top button says, "I want to select the connection method used to download my transactions". That is exactly what you want to do, so key "chase" in that box, then click "Next".
That should display yet another dialog ... which will allow you to choose "Direct Connect". Select Direct Connect, click Next and complete the process (remembering to select "Link", when Quicken presents you with the Chase account).
