Discover troubles again

Jun 26, 2011 8 Replies

I haven't been able to download my Discover transactions for three weeks now [Note: I don't try every day -- I've probably tried just four or five times over that interval]. I keep getting OL-297-A:

netstatus 36 Is this something I just have to wait out and keep trying? Would calling Discover to ask about the problem be of any use at all? Any other way to check what the problem is?

thanks! /Bernie\

I just opened my Q11 to my Discover account and did an account actions update etc. It went without a hitch (no Txs downloaded, though, since there weren't any).

I haven't had your problems with Discover, at least not recently. Have you tried to remove your OSU access and then re-establish it? It may be something went wrong in your setup of Discover ... (grasping at straws).

UGH -- I just deactivated Discover and tried to re-activate it and I can't... now I get OL-293-A and it won't. I validated my data file and all my other accounts download just fine.. Guess all I can do is keep trying...

Tried a different tack: logged into the discover site and tried downloading transactions manually. I misread the dropdown and so only downloaded transactions for the last week so I went back and selected "last month" [I'll get lots of duplicates but at least I won't have to type in all the intervening transactions by hand]. Tried to download that and:

We're Sorry We are currently experiencing technical difficulties. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I can't win for losing with Discover..:o) /bernie\

Well, it appears that you've Discovered :-) that it isn't a Quicken problem.

I have had problems on and off with Discover for years. Sometimes one of my Discover cards will work. sometimes the other. Sometimes it take two or three attempts for each. Then, after a few weeks, it clears up and works flawlessly for months.

FWIW: I was able to download to Discover this morning (June 27) using One Step Update in Q2011 RPM R8 with no problem. When I tried an hour, or so, later using Q2010 RPM R10, I got the OL-293 error.

[I use the "Discover Card" financial institution name, not "Discover Card Account Center".]

Tried re-activating again and it *sort*of* worked: I did connect to discover and get authenticated, but still it wouldn't download my transactions. But now discover is again listed among my OSU institutions... BUT: the "institution" changed. I'm pretty sure it used to just say "Discover" or "Discover Card" but when I just re-authenticated it listed as the "discover card account center". So maybe all of this turmoil is due to Discover changing their server setup or something.

I don't believe your problem has to do with Discover changing their server setup.

"Discover Card Account Center" is the Web Connect financial institution for Discover; "Discover Card" is the Direct Connect financial institution for Discover. Both financial institution names have existed for quite some time.

"Direct Connect" downloads are the best way to download (but even they can fail sometimes).

If your basic download method is "Web Connect", you *may* be able to use One Step Update to download ... if "Express Web Connect" works for your financial institution (see the "Online Services" tab in the "Edit Account Details" of your Quicken account). I believe that "Express Web Connect" is not very reliable for many financial institutions ... Discover being one of them.

I would deactivate the account from downloading, change the financial institution name to "Discover Card", then re-activate the account for downloading again.

Got it.

Did that and found that the 'institution' on the main account page for my discover acct had changed to the "account center". Deactivated, changed it to 'discover card' and re-activated. And I'm stunned to report that it

*all*worked*. I got transactions downloaded!! Unfortunately, it is [it seems] a years-worth of them [first one in the batch is july 5 2010]]. I think I'm just going to delete them through until I get to recent ones and then see if my acct starts behaving.

THANKS for the advice!! /bernie\
