Indeed -- it seems to have broken Chase direct connect! I now get solid

301-A errors whenever I try to download transactions. And what's odd is that when I fired up Quicken this morning it didn't remember the Chase password! It prompted me for the password and refused to take the one I entered (said that the password cannot be more than 12 characters. BUT: at the chase website it says that the password can be 2-32 characters) I've spent a fair time on the phone with Chase and we cannot get Quicken to connect. I changed the password, deactivated and reactivated the account.. all to no avail. Has anyone else run into this? Is there some way to fix it? [and I can't remember if it was always this way, but it said the financial institution was is "zzz-Quicken Visa" -- I wonder if that changed [and that's why my password disappeared].] [is there a brute-force was [web connect, file download?] I can try with chase while I try to sort out the direct connect problem?]

Thanks /B\

There's a couple of things you can try -

First is to look at the CONNLOG.TXT log file in C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Quicken\Log and see if there's any clues there.

Second is to try a variation on the instructions here:

I see something about activating your Chase checking account first...

I forgot about CONNLOG.TXT! {It's been so long since I needed to mess with it..:o)}

Chase no longer supports old versions of Quicken -- I wonder if the 8.8 update has messed up Quicken's reporting of which version it is?

Mystery solved. My Chase "freedom" credit card was originally a "quicken visa" card (that's why I got it! I don't have any other Chase accounts). A while back when they renewed my card it said "Chase Freedom" but there was no other problem so I ignored it. I got to thinking about it and tried the deactivate/reactivate dance, but this time I changed the institution. It used to be something like "zzz-quicken-visa" or something like that. This time I just selected "Chase" as the financial institution and it all worked: it reactivated and is now downloading just fine. No noticed about the change nor did any of the customer support folk mention it. But... at least I'm OK now.
