Downloads Incorrect Stock Info

I have used E*trade for many years and downloaded my stock info into Quick. No problem!

A few weeks ago I sold Intel, Time Warner, LSI and Cisco.

The sold stock data downloaded correctly (i.e. selling the correct shares in my Quicken portfolio)

But at the end of the tail end of the download I got an error message saying that my portfolio was missing exactly the same amount of shares of the stocks that I sold. It then enterer a "placeholder" amount in each of the 4 stocks for what it thinks is the missing shares. But these shares are not missing and I don't want the placeholders, so I deleted them. Unfortunately the next download again entered the placeholder share amounts.

How do I fix this? Appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks Steve

You do not have to accept the placeholders Quicken offers.

Quicken gets "holdings" information from the fi in the download, separately from the transactions. If the fi does not download holdings, or downloads them incorrectly, Quicken will determine that it and your fi are in disagreement and offer to enter a placeholder to make the two sets of holdings match.

One place to start checking for the differences is in the Online Center: with the fi selected, click the Holdings tab and "Compare to portfolio". I'm guessing you will see the same differences you already reported, though not necessarily in exactly the form you might imagine. One possibility, I think, is that you have two names for the same security and the fi is reporting holdings under one name and transactions are being matched to a different security name.

If both Quicken and your fi show the same name for each security, but the fi is reporting different holdings, then I think you need to contact the fi.

At least one other poster (in the Intuit Quicken forums) has reported this type of problem with E*Trade; his investigations seemed to suggest that the problem is with E*Trade.

Yes Etrade has confirmed the problem is with them. I have been working with them for several weeks about this and have sent them ofx log files to help them figure it out.

I have been working with these 2 folks - Tim McQueen 916-858-5090 ext 3076

Tell them your issues - they know a number of people have the issue but as of last week do not know how to fix it.

Damn! what a way to reward them. First you post one guy's email address where it can be harvested by any spambot and then you post the other guy's phone number! Did they ask you to broadcast that information? Do you think that with multiple users calling them they will fix the problem faster?

Use discretion when you post other people's private information on the internet, knucklehead.
