Downloads to Quicken 2012?

I posted this before, but have not found a solution to the problem. Hopefully, someone can help/advise this time.

Thanks in advance!

---------------------------------------------------------------------- I have a ChevronTexaco Gas Credit Card and have been unsuccessful in setting it up in Quicken. When trying to set it up, Quicken goes thru the process of logging onto the site in setup, and seems to find the site, but comes back with an error of "Unknown". Has anyone been successful in adding an account for the credit card? If so, could you detail how you did it?

The card is issued by GE Capital Retail Bank. I called the Customer Service 800 number and was told it wasn't their problem and I would have to contact Intuit/Quicken to resolve it. I called Quicken Support and was told it is not their problem. Seem to be passing the buck.

I don't have a ChevTex cc, so I'm speculating...

Have you verified with the FI that you're properly identifying them in the account setup? In the list of available Financial institutions, I see "Chevron and Texaco Credit Cards", but that's not necessarily a guarantee that your card can be set up with that FI. Highly likely, just not guaranteed. i.e. it's "likely that the FI behind "Chevron and Texaco Credit Cards" is GE Capital, but it might not be.

Beyond that, you might contact your FI & make sure they support Direct Connect. If they don't you'll have to use the Web Connect method by logging onto your account thru their website & downloading transactions in Quicken format.

I think the main problem is with the website for FI. As a retiree of Chevron, I get a discount on gas purchases that is posted at the billing date. That entry is posted with a Transaction Date of

00/00/2000 and a Posting Date of the correct date. When trying to download to Quicken, the import file is rejected due to the invalid date. Have spoken to their website support a number of times and they can't seem to fix the date problem, for some unknown reason.

So, I have to download a Quicken format file (.qfx) from the site, edit the file with Notepad, change the Transaction Date to the proper date for the Reward transaction, and I can then import the transactions into Quicken. I'm looking for and hoping for a work around that would eliminate me having to edit the file. Spent an hour on the phone with their website support, with no solution to the problem (solution - simply post the correct transaction date - which they seem to have a problem doing).

I would set up a recurring automatic transaction as of the billing date, supposedly something like the 2nd of each month. Make the amount something reasonable. Set the automatic entry for 5 days before the billing date (or whatever you want, I generally do a month or more, so I'll see the effect the Tx has for the balances in the next month or 2. When you know the actual accurate amounts, just edit the amont and set the clear or Reconciled "flags".

Did you resolve this? I have the same problem.

No, I have not. The biggest problem is with the employee discount that Chevron provides each month. When the transaction is posted to the website, the site places an invalid date in the transaction date field (20000000) instead of the valid transaction date. In speaking to web support, they say they cannot fix that? So, I manually download the transactions using the website download procedure, edit the file in Notepad, replace the invalid date with the correct date and then use "File Import" to load the transactions into Quicken.

Do not understand why the web support cannot correct their posting of an invalid date.

This is an excellent example as to why I choose to NOT download transactions from financial institutions. I buy gas about once a month so, if it was me, I could have MANUALLY entered the transaction or two a lot easier and faster than downloading the file with the error and having to go through all of what the OP chose to do. My motto is KISS. (Keep it Simple, &*&*$#).

So what you have to do is manually set up the account in Quicken, go to the Chevron/Texaco Credit Cards web site, log in there, choose "Statements / Billing Activity". It will start at "Recent Activity", e.g., transactions posted since your last statement. If none are present, choose the drop down to pick up your last statement. Click "View", now you can choose "Select Format" and use the "Quicken" choice. Click on "Download" and it will download the activity into Quicken.

I suspect if you don't have the account set up in Quicken, it would prompt you for the basic account info, so that's another option.

By the way, GE Finance also hosts Sam's Club Discover card, which uses the exact same approach and interface. Because these credit cards are branded to the stores, and not to GE, you can't use the auto download feature from within Quicken.

Hope this helps.

?Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding your Chevron and Texaco credit card, and the opportunity to be of service to you. At this time, we do not provide access to GE Capital account(s) via these third-party tools. Please know that protecting any personal information provided to us is one of our primary objectives, and we continue to work closely with these third-party service providers to ensure they meet data security standards and are fully compliant with regulatory requirements before enabling these sites to access your account details. Although we do not have information on timing, we are in the process of working with some online financial management tool providers to determine account access via these tools. We appreciate you as a valued Chevron and Texaco customer. If you have any questions or if we may be of further assistance, please contact us via the Online Message Center."

So downloading Chevron transactions from Quicken is not possible yet but possibly in the future.

The security argument is bogus as it applies to Quicken. The real issue is cost. Intuit charges a large amount to banks for OSU downloads. They charge less for web downloads, so a lot of financial institutions opt for that if they opt at all.

The problem with the Chevron/Texaco card appears to be with the discount transaction for employees/retirees that is posted to the account at the end of the month. The item is posted with an invalid "Transaction Date" of "20000000" and therefore, Quicken rejects them. I've been in touch with the card's web support staff regarding the problem and they claim they cannot fix the date and it is Quicken's problem - yes, right :(

What I have to do is download the transactions via the website, to the QXF file, edit the file in Notepad, change the invalid date to the correct date, do a File Import into Quicken and it updates fine.

Do not know why the credit card tech support staff cannot correct this problem?
