From Mac2004 to Windows2004

The Quicken instructions state "For each banking account in Quicken for Windows 2001 and later, it will be necessary to 'Accept All' transactions in the 'Compare to Register' screen. The 'Compare to Register' screen will be in each banking account register. After accepting the transactions, click 'Done'"

I imported an investment account and I don't find a 'Compare to Register' screen. All the transactions are there with the proper values, etc, but before it will display any values of the transaction, I have to select each transaction, do an 'Edit' and then enter each transaction.

Surely, I'm doing something wrong.

Help!

The instructions you quote sound like they're talking about accepting downloaded transactions. Imported transactions are entirely different, in that you don't get a "compare to register" function. Perhaps someone who's converted from Mac Quicken to Windows Quicken can provide more specifics.

No, it is for importing. The instructions quoted came from the Quicken Help document "Converting data from Quicken for Mac to Quicken for Windows", no. 5198.

OK, I stand corrected. Frankly it's been years since I exported/imported data from/to accounts. Have you posted to the Quicken forum? There are Intuit people there who may be able to answer your question.

I don't have Q2004 available at the moment, so I can not test.

Why are you concerned about not seeing the Compare to Register window? If I understand you correctly, the only thing that has happened differently is that Quicken did an Accept All for you.

But then, I confess, I found this sentence very difficult to understand:

"All the transactions are there with the proper values, etc, but before it will display any values of the transaction, I have to select each transaction, do an 'Edit' and then enter each transaction."

The "proper values" are there, but they are not displayed? Then you "Edit" the transaction and "Enter" the transaction ... but what actually do you do and what change results?

Having said that, based only on your posted comments, and remembering that I can not actually test this; I believe that at some point, Quicken began to treat downloaded transactions differently if they were to an empty Quicken account. Originally, all downloaded transactions were placed in the Compare to Register window; but at some point I think Quicken was changed so that if the Quicken account was "new" (empty), no Compare to Register window would appear ... presumably because if the account was empty, all downloaded transactions had to be "New".

Perhaps the same logic applies to transactions imported via QIF file. If so, and one were intent on seeing a Compare to Register window, one could simply enter one dummy transaction into the "new" account before importing the QIF file and perhaps that would cause Quicken to present the Compare to Register window during the import process.
