Help - Memorized Payees don't insert category

Every month my investments are atuomatically pulled from my bank account. The name used is gibberish so I want to use a memorized payee to replace the name and add in the category field the investment account the money was transferred to. Problem is, the account won't instert in the categry field. I have to manually find it and insert it.

How can I fix this?

Thanks!

I can't tell from your explanation, what there is to fix. It doesn't matter how the "account category" is entered, once it is in the Memorized Payee, you're done.

Please describe in detail what you do, and what you think the problem is.

At least in 2007 H&B, I am using the Renaming Rules to do just this. After one transaction has downloaded (with the gibberish Payee name) and renamed it successfully to the "real" Payee I want to show, I enter the Category. THEN, I memorize the Payee. From that point on, when this renamed Payee is used, the program inserts the Category from the match in the Memorized Payee List.

That is odd. It never worked until I tried to recreate hte problem to answer your post. Now it works. Oh well...

Thanks for replying.

I tried that but the gibberish names that downloaded were not unique. Two of the transactions downloaded as "44" and the other as "45" (Account numbers). I tried using "44" in a renaming rule but it would get half right and screw up the other. Now, if the renaming rule could account for the amount then it would have been perfect.

If you have Q2006, or newer, and your fi puts unique info in the memo field, you can have Quicken use memo field info in the renaming rule.
