Memorized Transactions, some trans don't fill category, some do...

I've got a confusing one here... I'm using Quicken 2004 Deluxe. When I enter a payee (quick fill works fine), sometimes the category pre-fills, sometimes it does not. In looking at the Memorized transaction list, I can't see anything different from the ones that do pre fill the category and the ones that don't. They all have categories, aren't locked (though I did lock a few to see if it made a difference), all the data is there. As addl info.. in the quick fill settings, all the boxes are checked. Any clue as to why some would pre-fill the category, and others won't?

I've come across this before in both Money and Q2005 Basic. I think both programs pre-load payees and categories (such as Dominos and "Dining Out" or Old Navy and "Clothing"). Can anyone else back me up on this? I don't know if that's like product placement in the movies, where the software makers actually get paid by the companies for doing this, or if it's the software companies just trying to be helpful. I've never delved deep into either program to see where these pre-loaded payees might be stored.

The key might be in one word of your explanation. You say, "When I *enter* a payee .... [emphasis added].

If you mean, "When I *key* a payee name ...." as opposed to "When I *enter a new transaction*; then I think the "cause" of your problem is that QuickFill does not fill the category or memo field when you are modifying an existing transaction; only when you manually enter a new transaction or accept a downloaded transaction.
