Home Inventory: Good or Bad?

I have QP 2008 - but is what you say really true? Under the PROPERTY AND DEBT pulldown you no longer have the QUICKEN HOME INVENTORY MANAGER app? (That's assuming that's where it was and is on your version of Q).

This is yet another bummer against Q2009 if true. But somehow I just can't believe it. It's not that much work for them to have kept it in the 09 program as is.

Can you (or others) confirm? Another reason I wouldn't upgrade if true. (And yes, I know he said Deluxe and I have Premier).

I just looked, its still there. Quicken Home Inventory Manager. When I select it I get error message Quicken Home Inventory Manager stopped working, Windows is checking on a solution. A problem caused the program to stop working, etc... I'll try tomorrow after reboot.

I have Quicken 2009 Deluxe. Quicken Home Inventory Manager is found under Net Worth menu. This is the old program (copyright 1999!) - not the newer program that they have been advertising for a couple of years now. Since they have the newer product, I wonder how long this product will continue to be offered. I use neither of these Home Inventory products.

What do you use? An EXCEL spreadsheet might be just as good for me anyway. Any 'freeware' out there that's as good. I am using QHI only on momentum as I started logging stuff in their in the early 1990s I think (maybe even late

But I don't see an easy export way on their menu to get the data out of it however. I believe we discussed this several years ago on how to do it, but I can't remember the details. Any easy method? I can search the archives later tonight; go to get to work now in the morning.

I'll second that. I've not messed with the Quicken home inventory. It appears too limited to be any good. This looks great. The fact that it can store pictures means I don't have to inventory all of my DVD collection. With this program, I can just store a few pictures with all of the titles visible. Same for CDs, and maybe even my old records. After all, A thief could steal enough in a few minutes to cost a lot to replace, and proving I own them could be difficult. A picture really is worth a thousand words.

So does anyone remember the easiest way to get info out of QHI in machine readible format - other than cut and paste (although that works wonders sometimes too!)

I wish they included a round tuit with the program, somehow I gotta get a round tuit.....

I purchased the Home Inventory Manager (QHIM) program ($30). Compared to the old QHI, it has additional features such as ability to attach pictures or documents (receipts). It still isn't very customizable, though, in terms of reports or lists.

It is quite a chore to input data, but I suppose that would be true of any inventory program. As someone else noted, I need a round tuit - cause I never seem to get a round tuit.

The thing I like about QHIM (and QHI does this too), is that it is integrated with Quicken. When you enter a transaction in your quicken register for which you want the item in inventory, just click on the "Inventory" button on the toolbar, and it opens QHIM (or QHI) and fills in some of the fields. Also, QHIM and QHI provide a number for net worth reports. If those things aren't important to you, I'm sure you can find a better peice of software or Excel/Access template.
