How do I transfer a security from one account to another?

Jan 14, 2006 3 Replies

I have recently pulled out all securities from a full-price broker (Wachovia) account and transferred them to my Vanguard account.

How do I make this happen in Quicken? What in Quicken connects my Walt Disney stock to Wachovia, that I can now transfer to Walt Disney stock under Vanguard?

Open your Wachovia account to the register view.

Fill in the info indicating transfer to the Vanguard account. You will see a 'Shares Removed' action for all shares of the security in the Wachovia account. You will see a 'Shares Added' action for each lot of the security in the Vanguard account. Repeat this for each security held at Wachovia.

You securities, along with correct cost basis, will be transfered. You can then hide the Wachovia account - all historical transaction data is preserved for future reference.

True, except that your Investment Performance reports for those securities will be forever screwed up. Near as I can tell, Intuit has still not fixed this bug.
